Michelle Trachtenberg discusses “Once More, with Feeling”

In an interview to promote the release of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer “Once More, With Feeling” soundtrack, actress Michelle Trachtenberg took the time to discuss what her initial reactions were when creator, executive producer and writer, Joss Whedon, announced that he was going to be doing a musical on the show.
“I was very calm,” jokes Trachtenberg. “I was hired on my acting ability. Singing is not an area that I love to dabble into. It was fun after the initial fear, shock and tears and ‘Oh my God I can’t sing to save my life.’ I had an agreement with Joss that I [would] sing as little as possible and dance a whole lot. I had a good time. [Joss] has an amazing way of making an actor’s worries kind of melt away because you kind of know that whatever he puts on camera you can trust. You know it’s going to look good. He wouldn’t let anything [look] bad.
Trachtenberg is happy with the album but, if it were up to her, she would have added more demos from the original pieces that Whedon provided for the Buffy cast.
“When they sent us the demo tape, because how else would we know to sing and stuff, it was [just] Joss and (wife) Kai (Cole) singing in their living room,” explains Trachtenberg. “We didn’t even want to sing on top of that because it sounded so good. I literally requested Kai to come in and do my singing. It didn’t fly. But it was unbelievable. If it were [up to] me, I would have put their entire [demo] on [the album].
